Tiger Woods singlehandedly fuels pro-golf ratings
Brooks Koepka claimed his second major of the year at the weekend when he added the PGA Championship to the US Open he won at Shinnecock Hills in June.
“We didn’t mention it at all”, he said of Woods’s charge. The Ryder Cup will be held September 28-30 near Paris, with the United States defending the crown it won in 2016 at Hazeltine, Minn., but having lost its past five matches in Europe.
World No. 1 Dustin Johnson, Masters champion Patrick Reed, along with Justin Thomas, Bubba Watson, Jordan Spieth, Rickie Fowler and Players Championship victor Webb Simpson round out the powerhouse American lineup.
Scott, the 2013 victor of THE NORTHERN TRUST, was in danger of missing out on the FedExCup Playoffs altogether, entering the PGA Championship at No. 120. Everyone else, it seems, is occupied by Woods.
“I realize Tiger is a story”, Furyk said. It is what it is and I suspect we’re going to be faced with more decisions as to how and where we get out sports fixes going forward but if it’s anything like last week’s coverage I don’t mind it at all. “I can’t thank them enough for what they were saying out there and what it meant to me coming back trying to win a major championship again”.
“You look at his performance in the majors, and I don’t think it’s a coincidence”.
“To do it in this fashion, playing against Tiger and Scotty down to the wire, it’s really incredible”.
“What is important is how well Tiger has played, sixth place at the Open Championship, a second place at the PGA”, Furyk said. “I can’t even put it into words”. His game is trending.
Koepka’s journey to the summit of the game has seen him take the scenic route as Off the Ball’s Joe Molloy explained on Monday’s OTBAM, “Koepka is an interesting character, like he’s far too cool for golf!”, he told Ger.
“I do want to be on the team as a player”, Woods said.
‘Tiger’s been a vice-captain in the team room as a player. “He’s priceless, to be honest with you”. We will also look at Le Golf National and how it plays.
“It’s been a big boost having the best player maybe ever to live following your group and being there for support”.
“You want guys that are in good form, say, from the summertime on”, said Furyk, who is set to announce three at-large picks September 3, with the fourth and last name to be revealed September 9.
While Woods has never been one to celebrate a loss, he couldn’t help but feel good about the road he’s taken over the past year – one that ended with a tantalizingly close call at Bellerive. “So I will have five”.
He’s still pinching himself after watching Koepka come back from four months on the sidelines with a wrist injury to win two of the three Majors he’s played this year. “We get an opportunity to see some more guys play well”. “This guy started out the year injured”, Furyk said.
‘I rely on every vice-captain heavily. How can you not have Brooks Koepka come to Europe with you? “You know, that could. if I missed that, that could be a real role reversal right there”. Woods hit a block-fade off the tee, a shot he battled all week and all season, and was fortunate to miss a creek that runs down the right side.
