Tiger Woods tells children `daddy made some mistakes`
Woods’ bid to overhaul the record 18 major titles won by the legendary “Golden Bear” has stalled since 2008, beset by personal problems and more recently a troubling back injury that even he has admitted could finish his time as a top player.
“The hardest part for me is there’s really nothing I can look forward to, nothing I can build toward”, Woods said. “And to be in my 30s, and to have done this much, I never would have foreseen that”. “I’m just walking, and that’s it”, he told reporters.
“Having the relationship that I have now with her is fantastic”, he said. But if it does, it does.
But I’m hoping that’s not it. I’m hoping that I can get back out here and compete against these guys. “I was to blame” – and so I’m taking initiative with the kids.
Woods recounted a tale of a nerve twinge after hitting a chip shot that left him crumpled on the ground and unable to move until his daughter, Sam Alexis, found him and went to get help.
Tiger Woods says he has a “fantastic” relationship with his ex-wife and he has taken steps to explain to his two children what happened to their marriage. They were married from 2004 until 2010, months after his infidelity with multiple mistresses led to divorce.
“I$3 would be having a more open, honest relationship with my ex-wife”.
“We’re able to pick up the phone, and we talk to each other all the time”. But the flip side is, my kids’ lives are much more important to me.
When asked if there were times that he came back from injuries too early, Woods responded, “Yes, I have”.
“I want it to come from me so that when they come of age, I’ll just tell them the real story”, said Woods.
Woods enthralled his Indian fans on his maiden visit to the Delhi Golf Club in February past year as he played a round of golf with leading national players including Shiv Kapur and Anirban Lahiri.
Encouraged by the rise of Spieth, McIlroy and a crop of exciting young American golfers like Justin Thomas, Nicklaus said he is “tremendously excited” for the future of the game but believes Woods needs to be fully fit physically to match them. “It was doing an injustice to both of us”, Tiger Woods said. “I had to reset the clock each and every day and OK, here we go”.
“If I can get to that, then we can start talking about golf”, he said.
Woods isn’t giving up on getting back to competitive golf levels, however.
“I have to get healthy in order to do it, though”, added Woods, who has already been named a vice-captain for the 2016 Ryder Cup at Hazeltine. I think I’m a pretty good golfer – you know what, I think I’m a damn good golfer – but when I went out there on my home course and I lost eight balls in nine holes.
“I will probably play through a little bit of pain, aches and pains”. No more surgeries. Seven is enough. Four knees, three backs, that’s enough.
“There’s nobody that had more influence in my golf game than Tiger”, he told reporters ahead of Woods’ World Challenge charity tournament in the Bahamas this week.
Woods said: “In hindsight, it’s not how I would change 2009 and how it all came about”.
