Tiger Woods to play in Wyndham Championship next week
Tiger Woods struggled on the greens.
And if he shoots another round like he did Thursday, he will not be here beyond Friday, either.
Wyndham tournament director Mark Brazil recently told GolfChannel.com that he has contingency plans in place if Woods plays his event, including added security and a larger media center.
Woods, 39, now is playing at the PGA Championship in Wisconsin, where he’s in danger of missing the 36-hole cut.
I golfed a few times in 1991 as a 9-year-old but didn’t pick up the sport consistently until the summer of 2008. He was bigger than the game itself, drawing tons of attention and millions of viewers.
Should the 39-year-old not rally today he will miss the cut in a major for a third straight and for the fourth time in the last five. “Hopefully I can hit the ball as well as I did today, tomorrow and make some putts”.
Woods, the person who fronted the sport collection for 16 years from 1998 to 2013, has slipped to 241 in golfing’s global ratings. It was part fear and part assumption that the game would go into a bad tailspin once Woods wasn’t Woods anymore. Rarely did Woods’ name come up in the run-up here. But points are five times greater in the playoff events, allowing for more movement if a player has success.
If Jack Nicklaus can win the Masters at 46 and Tom Watson can nearly win the British Open at 59, Woods certainly can make a comeback. His putting generally is not great, and pro golfers generally do not suddenly get better at putting after their 40th birthday, something Woods will celebrate December. 30. I just had no feel at all for the speed. “It was terrible”.
But, he said he enjoys the process of trying to fix his game.
I had only hit the links a few times this year before tackling Port Orchard’s McCormick Woods golf course earlier this summer. 2 and 3 to briefly get to 1 over.
But players must advance through the various stages of the playoffs.
“The season is pretty much over very soon”, said Woods, whose world ranking has plummeted to a mind-boggling 278th. “I still can do things overseas, still have our next season”. My score was atrocious as I finished in the triple digits under the sweltering heat of the July Sunday.
His last six rounds, or 108 holes, of major championship golf have yielded just 10 birdies.
