Tigers get Randy Wolf, put pitchers Norris, Sanchez on DL
Posting a 9-2 record with a 2.58 ERA in Buffalo, Wolf will be making just his third career start for an American League team this weekend.
The Detroit Tigers acquired left-handed pitcher Randy Wolf from the Toronto Blue Jays today for cash considerations. The veteran left-hander will start against the Rangers on Saturday, which is also his 39th birthday.
Heyman reported the Blue Jays had considered calling up but would honor his request if they chose not to. But, with the Tigers offering an major league job, it wouldn’t be very nice to stand in his way.
Norris said he had been given a timeline of three to six weeks, the latter end of which would put his return for the final week of the regular season.
He is 133-120 with a 4.21 ERA lifetime and was an All Star in 2003 with Philadelphia, where he spent eight seasons before stints in San Diego, Houston, Milwaukee, Baltimore and two with the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Daniel Norris’ oblique strain, which landed him on the 15-day disabled list on Thursday, is worse than originally thought, according to Tigers manager Brad Ausmus. He made his last big league start with the Marlins on June 14, 2014. “But we’re not going to do that now”, Ausmus said.
“I don’t know if I’d use him in that role”, Ausmus said, “But, yes, he is”.
