Tim Cook Says Apple Won’t Create ‘Converged’ Mac and iPad
“Our stores will continue to receive regular shipments and we encourage customers to visit Apple.com for online availability and delivery dates”. Equipped with a keyboard, albeit a removable one, the iPad Pro looks a lot like a notebook computer to me. Also it attempted to kick start the sales for its iPad lineup by releasing the iPad Pro which is its biggest tablet offering so far, and comes with a Smart Keyboard and also an Apple Pencil Stylus. In addition to that, because of its sharp and bright resolution, watching movies and even playing games in the iPad Pro is a total joy.
According to Cook, the iPad Pro is a gadget that underscores the belief that “people use both iOS and Mac devices”. Each of the said categories features a neat selection of its hardware, in addition to popular third-part accessories.
The 12.9-inch iPad Pro – 78% larger and at $799, 60% more expensive than the iPad Air 2 – is aimed squarely at this demographic.
He said: “We feel strongly that customers are not really looking for a converged Mac and iPad”.
So, with its high cost, besides professionals who need something like this, Gabe thinks the iPad Pro would appeal to iPad enthusiasts.
The first batch of Wi-Fi and LTE enabled iPad Pro with 128 GB storage was sold on November 12. Add $169 for the Smart Keyboard and $99 for the Apple Pencil, and you have a pricey proposition.
About the only product segmentation that makes any real sense today is portable versus non-portable. However, the company is shooting to make the iPad Pro a replacement for laptops. Just a few weeks ago, Apple executive Phil Schiller was quick to dismiss the market for hybrid laptop/tablet devices altogether, categorizing it as “incredibly small and niche” and unlikely to grow “to anything significant”.
Cook also remains confident about Apple’s other products.
