Tim Kaine Compares Trump’s Russian Hack Comments To Watergate
Tim Kaine attacked Donald Trump as a danger to national security for his seeming to encourage Russian Federation to hack Hillary Clinton’s emails, and sought to compare the Republican nominee’s remarks to the Watergate scandal that led to the resignation of President Richard Nixon.
In a taped interview with NBC’s “Meet the Press” that aired Sunday, Governor Mike Pence of Indiana, Trump’s running mate, called Clinton “the most dishonest candidate for president of the United States since Richard Nixon”.
The dueling characterizations reflect the degree to which Nixon has become a watchword for political corruption in the US, and thus an insult to fling against an opponent. Nixon resigned two years later.
But it the focus is on sensitive data falling into the wrong hands, Kaine argued the most egregious act by far was Trump publicly stating that Russian Federation should try to find Clinton’s missing emails. “A president was impeached and had to resign over an attack on the DNC during a presidential election in 1972”.
“Russia, if you’re listening, I hope you’re able to find the 30,000 e-mails that are missing”, Trump said at the time.
Pence’s comment comparing Clinton to Nixon came a day after the FBI released a 58-page summary of its investigation into the Democrat’s e-mail usage during her years as the top USA diplomat.
“The amount of interaction can only go up”, he said, pointing out that press will soon be flying with Clinton on her new campaign plane. “Listen, does it even matter who hacked this data?” While the Federal Bureau of Investigation has scolded Clinton over the handling of classified information, the agency recommended that no criminal charges be filed against her.
He was referring to an event following her August 5 speech to the National Association of Black Journalists/National Association of Hispanic Journalists in Washington, D.C., at which she took two questions from moderators and three additional questions from journalists. “She’s apologized for that”.
