Tim Krul suffers knee injury playing for Netherlands
Newcastle United goalkeeper Tim Krul has been ruled out for the rest of the 2015/16 Premier League season with a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee.
It was an extremely unlucky injury for Krul and Newcastle.
“Thanks for all the messages gutted to be leaving Crawley Town so early into the season!”
The Dutchman’s injury, of course, leaves the St James’ Park outfit in a troublesome position, with Karl Darlow now out with a foot problem, as well.
Holland were playing on an icy artificial surface in the Astana Arena, with Krul only featuring from the start after Dutch No 1 Jasper Cillessen was injured in the warm-up.
The extent of Krul’s injury will not be known until he has undergone scans, but the early signs appeared troubling for his club.
The 18 year old is now in Skopje with England Under 19s, but after Tuesday’s European Championship qualifier against Italy, various north east media claimed that the goalkeeper will then head to Newcastle rather than Crawley.
Holland boss Danny Blind, speaking shortly after the weekend’s game, seemed convinced Krul is set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
The Magpies now sit bottom of the Premier League and are still without a victory to their name, while their 6-1 demolition at the hands of Manchester City before the worldwide break only added to the pressure on manager Steve McClaren.
Elliot, who was on the Republic of Ireland bench last night, has just come back from injury himself.
