“Tim Tebow Night to Shine” special needs prom held in Columbus
During the three-hour event, guests have the option to get their hair done and shoes shined, and they also receive a corsage or boutonniere. Attendance records show it’s resonating.
“Night to Shine is an incredible prom that’s put on for individuals with special needs ages 14 to whenever”.
The Milledgeville Jaycees, Georgia College and The Life Enrichment Center partnered with the church in putting the event together.
The scene was repeated some 114 times during the Night to Shine prom dance at Calvary sponsored by the Tim Tebow Foundation. Tebow, the two-time national football champ with Florida and former NFL quarterback can count these results right up their with his greatest victories. And everyone who comes will get crowned prom kings and queens.
Among the almost 500 volunteers that night was Deb Ochall, whose daughter Ashley, 27, was a guest. It was attractive and impactful.
Senior Paige Arnett, business management major, spent the evening with Hillary Urbec and Brian Reed, guests with whom she had become friends previous year.
Guests will get to walk the red carpet, get their pictures taken. She also organizes the volunteers.
“I just enjoyed riding in the limo”, added Granatino.
“That’s what’s so incredible – that we have so many people rallying around this”, Caserta said. “But I’m having a good night tonight because my girlfriend is here”, said Pike. For this year’s events, the 32,000 special needs attendees from last year are expected to grow in the thousands, reports The Christian Post. “That’s typical for a prom”, she said with a chuckle.
“It definitely feels really special”, said Gerbitz.
Hungate is admittedly not a huge sports fan. On a night that was all about giving him a chance to shine, Guillory did, returning bright smiles and enthusiastic high fives. With 330 guests registered, Wood said, “I love seeing the joy in guests’ faces. I just hope this means something really special to her, that she gets to feel comfortable and loved”.
The local event was planned by members of Big Spring United Methodist Church, in cooperation with members of First United Methodist Church, where the event was held this year. My kids and I are providing desserts. “Coming into a year ago, I had never seen anything put together so that children and adults can come in and not even realize that it’s a prom geared to people just like them”.
