Tim Tebow reflects on Jets days at Mets spring training
Well for one, he hasn’t been invited into that clubhouse.
Participating in spring training will help Tebow be better prepared for the regular season than he was for the AFL, and should afford him the chance to be more successful. ESPN will tell you its coverage of Tebow is justified seeing how he moves the needle in both terms of traffic and ratings. Tebow is passionate and genuine, and seems like someone others would enjoy having around in a locker room.
At his news conference Monday, Tebow said he just wants to enjoy himself while pursuing his baseball dream. Don’t be surprised to see the guys coming off injuries (Harvey, deGrom, Matz) to maybe only get one inning that day. “I want to be someone that was known for bringing faith, hope and love to those needing brighter day in their darkest hour of need”.
To be fair, being thrown in to the AFL is about as brutal a way to start a professional baseball career as possible, especially for someone who hasn’t played a competitive game in 12 years. “I truly believe Tim has the skill set and potential to achieve his goal of playing in the Major Leagues, and based on what I have seen over the past two months, it could happen relatively quickly”. “That’s my ultimate goal”.
“It’s so much about how you’re able to handle things mentally, and that’s not just the highs, it’s also the lows”, the lefty hitter said. Apparently Murphy has a simple answer to that question as well and it involves Tebow and the word power. He’s running faster and harder than everyone else on days that don’t require harder and faster.
The 29-year-old was a big attraction in Port St. Lucie last fall. He will continue to work with minor leaguers. Not buying it. Any worthwhile young player will cruise by Tebow as if he’s a golf cart on a highway. Even Noah Syndergaard walked in on his own during his introductory press conference.
A vendor outside of the main stadium on Sunday was selling shirts with Tebow’s name and number, and his shirt was the only one being sold among all of the team’s prospects.
If that’s the case, does Tebow actually have a chance to make New York’s Opening Day roster?
That’s a good way to earn respect.
“I haven’t totally changed my swing”, Tebow said.
“I just kind of focus on what I can control – my attitude, my effort, my focus, trying to get better every single day”, Tebow said (via USA Today).
