‘Tis the Seaon: Toys for Tots holds toy drive in Garden City
“We encourage all horseplayers and fans to join us at Aqueduct on December 12 and 13, and to bring an unwrapped toy in support of this important community effort”. For more than 68 years the Marine Corps Reserved has assisted in a toy drive that creates the Christmas magic.
Assistance with the Fayette Toys for Tots program can vary from volunteering or donating. Organizers said they hoped the Marines can come by Cos Cob on pickup day.
While Santa was the star of the show, much of the work collecting, sorting and delivering toys is done by Marine Corps Reserve volunteers, Dunkin’ Donuts franchisees, as well as local police, fire and emergency response units, for which a special dedication was made at Sunday’s event. In the past, families have sponsored toy drives and fund-raising drives at their Christmas or birthday parties.
Perhaps the best part – the free donut is of your choosing. The high school kids in the program, who are learning about law enforcement and community service, will be assisting with the toy collection.
Keegan said they would also be reaching out to local veterans organizations to get them involved.
Organizers said this could be the first time in years that they will need to seek help outside of Lane County. His years of service earned him the U.S. Marine Corps’ Commanders Award.
“We have a lot of new energy and new ideas”, Kriskey said.
“They picked out toys they thought other kids would enjoy”, Mayo said.
