Tis The Season For Christmas Tree Hunting
“We wanted a real Christmas tree and then Pepper’s Tree Farm is right down the road from our house”.
It’s one of many Christmas tree farms across the region where people can choose and chop their own tree.
“We thought it might slow down a little bit after things settled down in Iraq but the enthusiasm for the program has continued and gets bigger every year”, says Chip Ellms, the owner of Ellms Christmas Tree Shop.
As for the Castillo kids they say no matter the size of their tree they’re just excited for the holiday season.
“If we were around, people would stop in and say hey can I get a tree?” St. Albans resident Mark Deso says he’s been coming to Bakersfield for years for that experience. It’s tradition”, said Deso, “I have my whole family here today.
What started out as two tree farms driving around picking up trees now has FedEx on board to deliver the 18,000 donated trees a year. “And there’s something special about a tree that you saw out with a lot of other trees, and you brought home and put your own decorations on it, and you know it came from Iowa”. “The youngsters get mindful about the outdoors and the natural world that we are surrounded by here”.

The 105th NY Air National Guard stationed at Stewart Air National Guard Base near Newburgh and fourth grade students from Lee Road Elementary School in Cornwall, helped load over 400 Christmas Trees onto FedEx trucks Monday morning.
