Titanfall 2 beta coming to Xbox One ‘soon’

The multiplayer beta test was previewed in a trailer that you can view below from the Titanfall Official channel, but I’m not entirely sure Boomtown is among the footage, given that nearly all of the gameplay takes place outdoors. So what are the odds we’ll ever see a Titanfall 2 VR mode, or even so much as a VR mission? The first Bounty Hunt (5v5) is s brand new mode that pits Pilots and their teammates against an opposing team as well as the Remnant Fleet. Forward Base Kodai will then be added for the second weekend.

Enemy Titans will also drop onto the map, their inevitable destruction landing fat stacks of cash for whoever lands the final blow. The freedom of movement, AI bots and pilot/titan combat was something previously unseen in first-person shooters. It feels like the mode would benefit from having scaled losses: 50% for a kill by an enemy pilot, 25% by a titan, and the whole lot if a grunt gets you, because that’s the ultimate shame. In the forthcoming technical test there’s Scorch, wielding a thermite launcher and with the ability to use a walk of flames – a literal firewall – as well as a heat shield, while its special unleashes a wave of fire.

Pilots vs. Pilots mode is a Titanless mode where two teams worth of Pilots duke it out to the death.

Zampella also confirmed that fears over data-miners’ curiosity into the single-player aspect of the game played a part in the decision to lock down the technology test to Xbox One and PlayStation 4. Amped Hardpoint (6v6) is a twist on the classic Hardpoint Domination mode from the original Titanfall, where defending a Hardpoint allows you to amp it for double the score for your team.

The big change in Titanfall 2, though, isn’t going to be found by poring over weapon lists and mobility changes.

Titanfall 2, with developer Respawn Entertainment and publisher EA once again pulling the strings, is scheduled to hit stores on October 28. Pilot is an 8v8 mode that strips players of their mechs and makes the fighting a bit more personal.
