Titanic Composer Feared Dead In Plane Crash – Sky News
The pilot was killed, and no one else was on board. I say “appears” because Horner’s own attorney remains unable to confirm the composer’s death, more than twenty-four hours after the crash.
Here are some of his most memorable compositions. He leaves behind a body of work which can only be termed as legendary.
Actor Russell Crowe also tweeted his sympathy for the late composer, who wrote the score for “A handsome Mind” in which he starred in 2002. Horner was a celebrated composer, collaborator, and friend in Hollywood and his absence will be deeply felt. Seth MacFarlane tweeted his condolences and mentioned that he grew up loving his work.
Marco Beltrami, composer on “The Hurt Locker”, “World War Z” and “3:10 to Yuma” said, “James Horner was one of the great film composer legends”.
Dion was one of the first celebrities to pay tribute to Horner. His music lent itself to tales told on a grand scale, like Braveheart and Glory, and to stories of speculation and fantasy, from Field of Dreams and Cocoon to Aliens and The Rocketeer. He was due to return for the movie’s sequels, recently discussing it with Cameron, but the plan won’t be fruitful because of Horner’s death.
James won Oscars for Best Original Dramatic Score and Best Original Song for his unforgettable work on Titanic, and received a total of eight Oscar nominations throughout his prolific career. The pair were reportedly in the process of working on more Avatar films.
Horner also composed the music for “Aliens”, “The Karate Kid”, “Braveheart” and a string of other major films. In addition, he scored popular animated films The Land Before Time (1988) and An American Tail: Fievel Goes West (1991).
His breakthrough in the industry, though, came when he was invited to write the score for “Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan,” a 1982 American science-fiction film released by Paramount Pictures.
Horner’s private aircraft crashed in southern California in the Lost Padres National Forest, which is situated to the north of Los Angeles. Firefighters rushed to the location of the crash later and put out the fire, according to local fire authorities. Another report cited that the plane had gone down but the pilot had not been identified, despite it being registered in Horner’s name.
Cameron went on to hire Horner to create the scores for Titanic and Avatar, and admits he was thinking about his friend and colleague when he heard the news of the tragedy in California.
