Titans QB Marcus Mariota has minor knee sprain
According to ESPN, Marcus Mariota suffered an MCL sprain to his right knee during Sunday’s game against the New England Patriots. Not to mention the linebacking group of Jerod Mayo, Jamie Collins, and Dont’a Hightower, all three of which are not only huge but also quick and explosive on their feet.
It was a rough day for kicker Stephen Gostkowski, who missed a field goal for only the second time this season when a 48-yard attempt went wide right.
He also said that while Mariota isn’t done for the season now, the only way they will play him is if he is 100% healthy.
After all, there was little chance the Titans (3-11) would overtake the defending Super Bowl champions (12-2) even with Mariota.
Tom Brady completed 23 of 35 passes for 267 yards and two touchdowns to help the Patriots (12-2) hold onto the top spot in the AFC. Among the highlights of his season was a flawless NFL-debut, throwing 209 yards on a 87% completion rate, four touchdowns, and no interceptions with a ideal 158.3 passer rating. Mariota has completed three or more touchdown passes on four different occasions during his rookie season. They still hold the No. 1 draft pick for 2016, something this franchise hasn’t had since trading with Tampa Bay for the selection in 1978. Mettenberger finished Sunday’s game. Mettenberger, in his second National Football League season, was 20 for 28 for 242 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions.
Mularkey added they won’t play Mariota if there’s any concern about his health.
The new injury comes after another MCL sprain earlier in the season, but to his left knee, that kept him out for two weeks. We’d still be surprised to see Mariota again in 2015. Marcus Mariota exited the game early with a knee injury, and although it didn’t seem serious, Mariota wouldn’t return and Zach Mettenberger played the rest out. Chandler Jones stripped the ball from quarterback Marcus Mariota and it rolled backward, with defensive tackle Akiem Hicks recovering it in the end zone for the touchdown. “But we have to get him healthy, too”.
Notes: Brady was listed as questionable with an illness on Friday, but he started and played the whole game….
