Titans QB Marcus Mariota injures knee, will have tests Monday
On Sunday, the Pats took the first step toward clinching the top seed, pummeling the Tennessee Titans in a 33-16 win that never felt as close as the final score.
According to our sister station WKRN in Nashville, Tennessee, rookie quarterback Marcus Mariota will not play Sunday against Houston, but his season is not over yet, according to head coach Mike Mularkey.
Mariota, the second overall pick of the NFL Draft, has already broken several franchise rookie records, including most touchdowns (19), completions (230), passing yards (2,818) and passing attempts (370). Mariota missed two games recovering from the injury. WR Damaris Johnson, claimed off waivers by the Titans from New England earlier in the week, was inactive….
Zach Mettenberger, who emerged as the Titans’ starter last season, will start at quarterback in Mariota’s absence this week.
New England wide receiver Keshawn Martin ripped off a 70-yard kick return and was guilty of a pass interference call that wiped out a 70-yard catch and run by White in the fourth quarter.
Mariota completed 3 of 6 passes for 32 yards. “He was here past year and learned a lot and then got his opportunity when Dion (Lewis) went out, and he’s just done a great job with it”. The quarterback said that his right knee was twisted during a sack by linebacker Jamie Collins.
The Patriots (12-2) clinched a first-round bye in the postseason when Denver lost to Pittsburgh later Sunday.
They finish the season at the New York Jets next Sunday and at Miami on January 3.
The Patriots defense got on the board in the second quarter, as Chandler Jones forced a fumble from Titans’ quarterback Marcus Mariota.
Redskins 35, Bills 25: Kirk Cousins equaled his career high with four touchdown passes and ran 13 yards for another score, helping Washington win consecutive games for the first time in more than a year and stay atop the NFC East.
But Mariota went to the sideline and never returned. Danny Amendola fumbled a punt, which set up Tennessee near the red zone, though the defense held the Titans to a 49-yard Ryan Succop field goal.
The award is not the most important thing to come out of this season for Mariota, however. I am told #Titans QB Marcus Mariota suffered a sprained MCL yesterday & is not expected to play again this season.
