Titans QB Marcus Mariota Out For Next Week’s Game
Mariota has already missed two games this year with a left knee injury. Mularkey said protecting the quarterback is a primary concern.
“You probably saw the best two tight ends in football yesterday”, Mularkey said of Walker and the Patriots’ Rob Gronkowski. “I would listen to where it’s coming from”. Assuming his season is indeed over, it ends with 2,818 yards, 19 passing touchdowns and 10 interceptions in 12 games. He has fumbled 10 times. He also ran for an additional 252 yards and two touchdowns. “I’m glad we did it”. “You can’t ask for anything better than what he’s been doing for this offense, making plays on his feet when he needed to, and finding the open guys to get them the ball”.
Mularkey said that Mariota would definitely be held out of this Sunday’s game against the Houston Texans, but would not say that the rookie quarterback’s season is over, holding out hope that he might return for the season finale against the Indianapolis Colts. I understand that the Patriots were in control throughout most of the second half, but this is not the first time they have not used White enough.
The new injury comes after another MCL sprain earlier in the season, but to his left knee, that kept him out for two weeks. Mike Kafka, signed to the practice squad last week, is the only other quarterback on the roster. Wide receiver Danny Amendola was a non-factor, catching only one pass for three yards before leaving the game with an apparent knee injury. James White caught seven passes for 71 yards, including a 30-yard catch-and-run touchdown, and Keshawn Martin had a 75-yard kickoff return to set up another score.
“He’s gained a lot of trust from everybody just based on his performance, his consistency”, Brady said.
“There’s a lot of risk/reward as you get into the second half and you have a a pretty big lead”, Brady said.
The award is not the most important thing to come out of this season for Mariota, however. Two days after that game, Ken Whisenhunt was sacked, in part because the quarterbacks were under barrage. However, Mularkey stated during the press conference that Mariota would not play against the Texans, but then be reevaluated for the next and last regular season game.
“I’m not going to comment on any players that aren’t on our team”, Belichick said in his weekly day-after-game conference call. “He’s gone through what most guys won’t do for years; he’s had it in his rookie year”. “That’s all I have to say”.
Mariota, 23, had a productive first season. “Getting as much game experience (as we can)”.
