TJ Yeldon: (Finger) Sitting Out Friday
Tony Washington is taking advantage.
Jared Odrick, Allen Robinson, Marcedes Lewis, Roy Miller and WR Neal Sterling didn’t participate in drills today but were on the field. He hasn’t scolded the team’s effort at any point during training camp, which has consisted of nine practices and one scrimmage. It’s become so expected that his brilliance has sometimes become an afterthought. He played at Cincinnati, making 75 tackles in four seasons. He had two uneventful practices prior to Wednesday and was able to show his throwing range during this session. Gerhart was deceptively good as a pass catcher last season, managing to come in with 20 receptions previous year. “So he can throw it on his flawless time, and I’ll be there”. “I’m glad I did what I had to do to get the spot”. That’s probably why Jeff Tuel and Stephen Morris were getting a lot of reps at QB today in practice. Allen Hurns is only 195 pounds and Marqise Lee is only 192. He’s being held out largely as a precaution, based on coach Gus Bradley’s comments. “We would err on being more cautious”. It was just stay true to it man and keep going.
Who are the Jaguars 5 Most Important Players? Rookie wide receiver Rashad Greene is only 182 pounds. He is noticeably beating coverage on routes that bring him to the center of the field, whether it be slants, posts or “go routes” out of the slot. “Now, with some injuries and some guys out, it’s great to see him taking care of his opportunities”. Branch had perhaps his best day of camp on Tuesday, while the others have had their moments. Miller underwent knee surgery in the offseason and Odrick has rested the knee much of the last week.
Dwayne Gratz returned to practice on Wednesday.
As quoted at the Jaguars team site, “It allows me to get downhill, move around, play some fullback, play some halfback, split out and do a little bit of everything”, he said”. “We can’t put him out there at this time if he’s not 100 percent”.
With Alualu on the sideline, offensive lineman Tyler Shatley (who I wrote about Wednesday morning) took snaps as the redzone and goal line fullback.
Bradley said the intensity was there in Tuesday’s practice. I spoke with Shatley after practice about his usage on offense.
It’s catching the ball that has me the most optimistic, though.
The Jaguars signed defensive end Camaron Beard on Monday, and he made his practice debut on Tuesday. It was a neat treat for the youngsters.
Linebacker Matt Robinson, cut to make room for Beard, reverted back to the team’s reserve/injury list after clearing waivers.
