TNT calling an end to ‘Rizzoli & Isles’ crime drama
The police procedural, starring Angie Harmon as uptight Boston detective Jane Rizzoli and Sasha Alexander as know-it-all medical examiner Maura Isles, is the network’s most popular show with overall listeners but does skew on the older side.
Rizzoli & Isles’ 13-episode seventh season is set to begin this summer on TNT. That would make it the shortest season since its 10-episode freshman run.
“Rizzoli & Isles hit a cord with audiences the moment it aired, which is unusual and special”, Alexander told Variety.
Turner Networks boss Kevin Reilly made the announcement today at the Television Critics Association press tour.
“I think both ladies had a very satisfying experience”, Reilly said of “Rizzoli & Isles” stars Angie Harmon and Sasha Alexander, when asked if the series coming to end was influenced by the actress.
“It felt like it was time, and we all kind of discussed it and everyone said yeah, let’s finish out 13 great ones and call it a day”. The cancellation news comes after TNT pulled the plug on several series, including “Public Morals”, “Agent X” and “Legends”. In season 6, each episode of the crime show drew about 11 million viewers across all viewing platforms. However, executive producer Jan Nash warned in an interview that Jane Rizzoli will not be able to solve the mystery in a short period of time.
There are still no details about Harmon’s next projects after “Rizzoli & Isles” Season 7.
