To some who stood by Cosby, his admission is turning point

The ongoing public scandal has many ties to the Bay State and not just as the place where Bill Cosby has his residence.
Several women who accused Cosby of drugging and raping them are saying newly unsealed testimony by the comedian in a 2005 case corroborates their claims.
“I think it’s actually quite disheartening that it takes one man admitting guilt to get people to listen rather than 30-plus women who have been saying the same story”, said Nora Mitchell, rape victim advocate.
In the deposition documents obtained by the Associated Press Monday, Cosby admitted to acquiring quaaludes with the intent of giving them to women with whom he allegedly wanted to have sex.
But consider that the damning court documents could be the best-case scenario for Cosby, says Jeetendr Sehdev, an authority on celebrity branding and professor of marketing at the University of Southern California.
Lawyers for women pursuing sex-abuse and defamation lawsuits against Bill Cosby say his admission that he obtained quaaludes to give young women before sex could bolster their claims.
If there is one surprise in this dense deposition dialogue-during which the plaintiff’s lawyer alleged Cosby’s lawyer “openly coached the witness”, “interrupted the questioning with long-winded and repetitive speaking objections”, and “ultimately improperly terminated the deposition”-it’s that quaaludes were mentioned a lot””.
More than two dozen women have accused Cosby of sexually assaulting them.
More than 25 women have publicly accused Cosby of raping or assaulting them over the past 40 years.
She said the news brings her some validation but there were some dark times before she made it to this day. “We then have sex”.
The seeming admission released after a judge released the deposition from a 2005 case brought against him by Andrea constand, accusing him of sexually assaulting her in his Pennsylvania home.
Cosby settled that sexual-abuse lawsuit for undisclosed terms in 2006. Such prominent figures as Goldberg and “Cosby Show” co-star Raven-Symone say they’re reserving judgment on Cosby.
But he avoided questions about who he gave drugs to and when, and whether he gave women drugs without their knowledge.
What’s so chilling about the alleged assaults is how brazenly they conflict with the image Cosby cultivated over a career that scored him Emmys and Grammys, humanitarian and lifetime-achievement awards, a Presidential Medal of Freedom and so many honorary doctorate degrees that he probably keeps a cap and gown in the Caddy during graduation season. Some who had held out hope that the Cosby rumors weren’t true are now convinced in light of this new detail. “The problem with theories is, you can’t arrest on a theory”, he said, “you have to prove you’re theory is right – and we were unable to do that”. Cosby “has not been proven a rapist”.
Later in the deposition, Cosby said: “I meet Ms (T, whose name was redacted to preserve her anonymity) in Las Vegas”.
It said Tuesday that it was pulling its reruns of the 1990s-era CBS sitcom “Cosby” from the air immediately.
“We are very gratified that it is now being made public”, she said. I told myself his ugliness wasn’t relevant to my column. “I’m sorry the accusations RTrue”, Scott tweeted.
CNN has attempted to reach a lawyer and publicist for Cosby in response to the latest revelations, but without success. His publicist, David Brokaw, said that a statement ABC attributed to Cosby’s camp “was not authorized by a Cosby representative”. Nevertheless, attorneys for some of the women suing Cosby seized on the testimony as powerful corroboration of their accusations.
In fact, Cammarata had fought to have these documents unsealed in US District Court in Worcester in May, but a judge denied that request.
