A USA court has ruled the original auto from the 60s TV series “Batman” can not be reproduced without permission.
The cars in question are both the 1966 TV Batmobile and the version from the 1989 Batman movie starring Michael Keaton. “The panel held that the defendant’s replica cars infringed on DC Comics’ copyrights”.
What was notable about the decision, written by Judge Sandra Ikuta, was the author’s familiarity with the Batman mythos and especially the history of the Batmobile.
“As Batman so sagely told Robin, ‘In our well-ordered society, protection of private property is essential, ‘” states the opinion, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter.
An officially licensed 1963 Batmobile was auctioned off a year ago.
