Toddler finds gun, shoots grandma
According to a report from The Herald, the shooting happened Sunday afternoon in Rock Hill, South Carolina.
She defended herself, saying: “This mistake could have happened to anyone”.
“That would be devastating to a child, because they don’t really understand the impact of what this gun can do”, Wanda McCaskill said.
“Shock is not the word”. The victim was rushed to the hospital and was admitted to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte with non-life threatening injuries. The gun was in a pouch on the back of the front passenger’s seat. The toddler was seated directly behind her.
Bollinger says the injured woman’s sister owns the revolver.
Police said that revolver did not have a safety. They were coming down the road and had been in the vehicle only five minutes. That’s when she told him she’d been hit by the bullet in the back. Ervin is reportedly the registered owner of the gun. The little boy found an unlocked gun in the back pocket of the front seat, and was able to discharge the weapon, shooting his grandmother in the back.
“He thought he was playing”.
“My sister could’ve died”, she added. I could be in prison now, a college graduate with a degree in social work, getting my license in January. “If the grandmother or great-aunt had put the toddler in the back without a auto seat, you can bet you’re a** there’d be charges”.
The woman told police she was in the process of leaving the Arby’s off Heckle Boulevard Tuesday morning when the man jumped out of the bushes and into her SUV, according to a police report.
