Toddler Found Unresponsive in Home With Dead Snakes, Rats
On Tuesday, Sheriff’s deputies found a 2-year-old boy unresponsive in a filthy house surround by dead and dying animals in Gray Court, South Carolina.
The boy also suffered bruises on his face, neck, back and other places, Stiles said.
Morgan first said the boy choked on chips, then she said she dropped the boy.
Police say the young boy was airlifted to Greenville Memorial Hospital, where he remains in intensive care. Police aren’t buying either explanation, telling Fox Carolina the child’s injuries were “too severe” to have been caused from being dropped.
Deputies found two other children in the home, ages 1 and 2, and they were immediately placed in DSS custody, Stiles said.
According to an incident report, deputies found six dead spiders, 10 dead pythons and 48 dead rats, among other dead and living animals.
Animal control seized 90 animals, including cats, dogs, rodents and tarantulas from the home.
Morgan’s bail was set at $85,000 on Wednesday, with the additional condition that if she posts bail, she would be forbidden from having any contact with her children with approval from state officials.
They also found an alarming number of dead and dying animals in containers throughout the home, forcing them to call Animal Control to the scene, Stiles said.
‘I’ve never seen anything like it in my 20 years doing this, ‘ Franklin said.
Authorities said Savannah Victoria Morgan, 25, of 1922 Martin’s Lake Road in Gray Court, has been arrested and charged with abuse to inflict great bodily injury on a child, child neglect (3 counts) and animal cruelty.
This led police to 25-year-old Savanah Morgan, the boy’s father who is also eight months pregnant. The injured child reportedly was more responsive at the hospital on Wednesday, than when the boy was admitted on Tuesday. “It was a very sad situation to see something like this”, added Laurens Sheriff Ricky Chastain.
Morgan is being held at the Johnson Detention Center in Laurens.
