Toddler survives alone for ‘several’ days after grandmother dies in home
Cook said that police aren’t yet sure exactly how long Brier Rose was alone, as the time of death for her grandmother hasn’t been determined.
Annette Ineichen had been caring for her granddaughter while her daughter was in jail.
Waldo told police that the child’s mother, Tracy Ineichen, had not heard from Annetter Ineichen for several days and could not get in touch with her.
Tracy called her boyfriend, Anthony Waldo, asking him to stop by her mother’s home and check on her, reported the station WTAE. Through the window, he saw the child reaching her arms out and crying.
Waldo then called both police and Tracy Ineichen.
She’s in jail at a nearby detention center and told Anthony to stop by the baby’s home to check on her mother and daughter because her mother hadn’t shown up for her weekly visitation at the jail. When he picked her up, he said she was weak, smelled of urine, and her lips were swollen. He went through the home looking for the grandmother until he found her body on the bathroom floor. Though she survived through several harrowing days, Brier was malnourished and dehydrated as a result and is slowly recovering at the hospital, according to her rescuer. According to WATE, the Department of Children’s Services is working to find a home for the child.
The 15-month-old baby somehow survived nearly a week on her own after her grandma, Annette, died of natural causes, WBIR reported. “She’s smiling and laughing”. The last time anyone spoke to the woman was November 7, and she was found on November 14.
“Part of the tragedy is as her neighbor, we didn’t know”.
Waldo created a GoFundMe account on behalf of Tracy Ineichen, writing: “The majority of funds will go towards Brier’s medical expenses from her rehabilitory(sic) stay in the ICU”.
