Tokyo2020 proposes 18 additional events from five sports — Olympic News
“We are satisfied that often looking through has been used for incorporation within the 2020 Games due to Tokyo Olympic Organizers”, said Kieren Perrow, Commissioner along the World Surf League, the sport’s worldwide qualified gradient.
This package of events represents both traditional and emerging, youth-focused events, all of which are popular both in Japan and internationally.
The recommendation comes under the “Olympic Agenda 2020” program adopted by the global Olympic Committee (IOC) last December, in which host cities are allowed to propose one or more additional events for their games.
The organizing committee approved Monday’s proposal, which was chosen from eight finalists that had been selected from twenty-six initial sports that had applied.
Based on the announcement made earlier today, the five sports that have been included are baseball/softball, skateboarding, sports climbing, karate and skiing. This work shows that Karate is a universal, young and dynamic sport with incontestable media interest, as demonstrated through the great request and broad TV coverage of TV channels at our World Championships.
The 18 events will result in the addition of a few 474 athletes to the sports programme for the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020.
