Tom Brady admits he hates playing against Vince Wilfork
The Houston Texans face an enormous challenge against the New England Patriots on Saturday night.
Houston coach Bill O’Brien said Brock Osweiler will start at quarterback for the Texans (10-7), despite Tom Savage being cleared from the concussion protocol.
Not to mention, “In the previous 40 seasons, only three teams have been favored by 16 or more points in a playoff game”. “They’re obviously a team that lines up in different fronts”. He works very hard at his preparation.
The New England Patriots finished the regular season with the top record in the AFC at 14-2. His stats against the Patriots in 2016 (196 passing yards and an interception) weren’t as strong as his numbers from the 2015 matchup (270 passing yards, one touchdown and an interception). He was the offensive coordinator during the final season and the quarterbacks coach in the two before that. Brady’s preparation is unmatched and he is not interested in anything but the Patriots handling their business. Add in the fact that Belichick’s club doesn’t make a lot of mistakes and you see the predicament facing the AFC South champions. He’s very well-prepared. He’s played against a lot of these players. Osweiler’s no Tom Brady. And it also didn’t hurt to have Brock Osweiler going up against a Raiders pass defense that ranked 24th in the National Football League, allowing 258 yards in the air per game. Led by its stifling defense, Houston boasted the top-ranked defense this season, even without J.J. “I was kind of rusty for not playing the last two weeks”, he said. “You have to be excited”, Wilfork said. He’s been there, he’s been in these type of games many, many times, and he’s a good football player. He’s scored a touchdown in the past three games, including a rushing score in the Wild Card game.
“We’re going to have to have a great week of practice”. If they’re going to get it done, they’re going to have to play great defense, which is what their strength is, and stop Tom Brady.
As far as hype videos go, this might be the most intimidating one I’ve ever seen. He just keeps staying calm, and that’s what makes him so good. He’s a really good pocket quarterback, but he can also get out and run.
That Week 3 performance could be the floor in terms of expectations for New England against Houston on Sunday. They played their best game this past week, which you knew they would because Pete Carroll always has a way of getting them to peak come playoff time.
“He came out and executed the gameplan and did what we coached him to do – and took care of the ball”, said O’Brien.
The Patriots are the consensus pick to roll to the AFC Championship Game without breaking a sweat in Saturday night’s game, and with three of every four against-the-spread bets coming in on the Patriots to cover a ridiculous 15-point spread, the majority opinion is that it will be a laugher.
“We’re not going to show him anything that he hasn’t already seen”, O’Brien said. Clowney, he’s been doing what he’s been doing all year: “being disruptive, being a game-wrecker”. “I’ve been on both sides where I won it and I’ve lost it, so I know both feelings, and I know what it takes to get to that”. My whole career, I’ve been very fortunate – I’ve played with nicks and bruises, but everybody does – but I’ve been very blessed and lucky to have just one major injury in my career, from Little League to now. He’s played against this scheme.
Plays are made, turnovers occur, players are injured, and the ball sometimes bounces in amusing ways.
