Tom Brady sketch artist responds
Tom Brady, New England Patriots quarterback, and commissioner Roger Goodell both spoke privately with the judge in court.
Neither Brady nor Goodell attended Thursday’s talks. He’s a hero because for most of Wednesday, he called out the NFL and Tom Brady on the petty nonsense that has ensued for the better part of eight months.
The courtroom artist’s rendering of Tom Brady in U.S. District Court in Manhattan today will remain an indelible image throughout sports history. Though, that didn’t come before he had more questions and comments regarding the entire situation.
Goodell arrived at the courthouse in lower Manhattan before Brady, with several spectators shouting “liar” as he entered. Berman wondered why they would do this without Brady’s knowledge, per NFL.com. Goodell smiled as dozens of photo and video journalists did their work. Every single time that there’s a fumble, they’re going to talk about how the PSI wasn’t there. The players union, which is fighting the suspension, maintains there is no proof balls were deflated.
“Turns out Mr. Brady did better with higher-inflated balls than underinflated balls”, the judge said.
“You might say (Brady) got no better advantage from the under-inflation”, the judge said.
It seems judge Richard Berman is just as mystified. I’m sure it’s horrible.
With recent news that Tom Brady “destroyed” his cellphone during the investigation, the jury is out about what happened to his phone and whether or not pertinent information was left on that device.
The two are due back in court on 19 August for another settlement hearing. An NFL lawyer did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
He narrowed the case facts to January’s championship game and pressed the NFL to cite direct evidence that Brady knew balls were deflated. Brady insists he knew nothing about it.
The NFL and the NFLPA asked Judge Berman to determine whether to lift or uphold the four-game suspension on Tom Brady by September 4, just a week before Patriots’ 16-game regular season kicks off in a nationally televised game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. He accused him of obstructing the NFL probe about a controversy that represented “conduct detrimental to the integrity of, and public confidence in, the game of professional football”. Goodell said there were no directly comparable cases to Brady’s in the past.
No one is leaving these court proceedings looking well.
