Tom Coughlin: I’m not necessarily done coaching

The Giants quarterback was among a number of players who showed up to Tom Coughlin’s press conference where he announced he was stepping down after 12 years of guiding the team.

Coughlin was responding to Manning’s comments the day after the Giants finished their second consecutive 6-10 season and fourth straight year without a playoff trip.

New York Giants head coach Tom Coughlin officially resigned Monday afternoon. So needless to say, he has become beloved among Giants fans and within the organization itself.

Coughlin, Tisch, Mara and general manager Jerry Reese plan to hold a news conference Tuesday morning.

“It has been an honor and a privilege to serve as head coach of the New York Football Giants”, said Coughlin.

Coughlin then directly addressed Manning, saying, “Eli, it’s not you, it’s not you”.

Coughlin’s career National Football League coaching record is 170-150 with a 12-7 record in playoff games.

Mara said general manager Jerry Reese needs to improve the roster, but feels he remains the right man for the job.

“…No one worked harder, no one demanded more and I LOVE YOU for it”, wrote Tuck in an Instagram post. Eli Manning said in a statement that, “The team failed him, not Tom Coughlin failed”. With the Giants, he was 102-90 in the regular season and 8-3 in the postseason, including Super Bowl victories over New England after the 2007 and 2011 seasons.

Belichick has taken the Patriots to six Super Bowls, winning four times.

“Twelve years is a long time to be a head coach in the NFL”, Mara said.

People also questioned Coughlin’s control over the team after Odell Beckham Jr.’s erratic and emotional play in a Week 14 loss to the Panthers. Coughlin said Tuesday he doesn’t know what’s next for him, but he did say he planned to devote significant attention to his charity work. Coughlin Time, one last time.

Defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul said he does not believe the team is in need of a coaching change.

Coughlin was full of energy talking about his time with the Giants, the difficulties of the last few seasons and much more during the session, which naturally started five minutes ahead of the scheduled time. He needs to help the Giants find the right coach, and to bring in the right players.

John Mara ruled out nothing when it comes to the Giants coaching search.

This might have been one of Coughlin’s best years as a coach.
