Tom Coughlin on Odell Beckham suspension: ‘It’s not fair’
Norman and Beckham tangled from the earliest moments of Sunday’s game, when Norman slammed Beckham to the ground after one of the Giants’ first plays.
The NFL has upheld the one-game suspension handed down to Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr.
The NFL said Tuesday that former Washington and Philadelphia wide out James Thrash will be the hearing officer for the appeal by the New York Giants receiver.
Beckham Jr. sent out a tweet apologizing for his actions, and he later released a statement on the Giants’ official website, which you can read in full here. “What happened the other day was embarrassing to them and embarrassing to me”, Beckham said in the statement issued by the Giants. “There was some things on the other side, too, and I think both parties were involved”.
“People are going to interpret it. But the truth of the matter is, give me some concrete evidence so I can sit down and get this taken care of”. Since then, there has been a lot of talk about Panthers players (including Norman) menacing Beckham with bats before the game and taunting him with gay slurs, which puts his on-field meltdown into a slightly different light.
Vikings cornerback Captain Munnerlyn did not comment on Beckham’s suspension, regretting only that he would not be able to line up against him this weekend. “There were attempts to provoke him and he was provoked”. The two went at it all day in last Sunday’s game, and Beckham drew multiple flags. “I just pretty much showed people what this guy [Beckham] really is and what he stands for”. It’s not fair. It’s not justice.
“He was provoked. He was out of control”.
Beckham, who has 91 catches for 1,396 yards and 13 touchdowns this season, was penalized three times for personal fouls in a physical, game-long battle with Norman.
“Acts that jeopardise the safety of players or expose them to unnecessary risk can not be tolerated”, Hanks said in his letter to Beckham on Monday.
Many Giants reporters tweeted out Wing’s account of what he heard.
“I’m going to appeal it, and I’m going to get my justified case about the whole situation”, Norman said.
It’s pretty well stated I must say though I notice he didn’t offer an apology to Josh Norman.
Beckham circled back after the whistle on one play and targeted Norman with a helmet-to-helmet shot.
Just after the news of his suspension broke, Beckham tweeted an apology for his actions, saying he “dropped the ball on sportsmanship”.
