“I think what he learned is that he has to play his game and not force it, ” said Thomas’ caddie, Jimmy Johnson, who has been working with Thomas for three years after a long stint with Steve Stricker. “It’s imperative for me to get the ball in play, and if I’m there, go ahead and attack”.

“I was just signing my card there and realized I hadn’t had a five”, Fleetwood said. I’m pleased with the round.

“I’m going to have to”, Woods said. “So today was about the same, and I didn’t make anything”. 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8 and 10 on Sunday.

After tapping in for a bogey – her first of the day – at No. 18 that secured a two-shot victory over Pornanong (70), Hall hugged her playing partner from Thailand before being lifted off her feet by her caddie, father Wayne.

“It was very honest”, Johnson said of Tuesday’s team meeting.

McIlroy made up three shots in the final round in 2014 when he rallied to beat Sergio Garcia at Firestone.

Champions – Kenny Perry tied a tournament record with a 12-under-par 60 and has a five-shot lead after two rounds of the 3M Championship in Blaine, Minn.

Thomas, 25, took a three-shot lead into Sunday’s final round of this year’s tournament. “Switched putters, put a Spider Mini and started rolling it a little bit better”.

“If I hit more fairways I feel like I’ve got a good chance at winning the PGA Championship”. He has been runner-up three times, most recently at the British Open two weeks ago. I had a Spider with a line and then one without.

A five-time victor during the 2017 season, Thomas, 25, was always going to have a tough time living up to that Player of the Year season.

“Why they are taking the tournament away I have no idea. (I was) happy with everything”.
