‘Tonight Show,’ ‘SNL’ coming to Snapchat under deal with NBC
Saturday Night Live and The Tonight Show will get their spinoffs later this year, and while information is brief, the idea is that popular snippets of the show will be made digital exclusives for the platform.
“The Voice is a show about the discovery and development of new artists and we see this new Snapchat series as a way to take the wonderful storytelling of The Voice and tailor it to the mobile generation”, RobHayes, EVP Digital at NBC Entertainment, told Mashable in an email interview.
NBC is one of several media companies, including ESPN, CNN and Cosmopolitan, to partner with Snapchat to produce content for its Discover section but the messaging app notes that this is one of the first times a broadcaster has reimagined its TV shows for Snapchat. It is probably the easiest thing they can create to start things off. NBC will also broadcast content from the 2016 Olympics through a dedicated channel in the Snapchat app.
E! News will debut a weekly Snapchat series beginning September 8. NBCUniversal is one of the first partners to reimagine highly successful television franchises and produce them specifically for Snapchat and a mobile-first audience. Snapchat will serve up five episodes of the show via its platform, which will feature Miley Cyrus, Alicia Keys, Adam Levine, and Black Shelton, the four coaches on the show. The coaches will review the clips and a victor will have the opportunity to appear on the show’s new season, beginning September 19.
Snapchat will also launch E!
The Rundown will be hosted by E! This series will include a look at pop-culture, as well as other segments. “From entertainment to news and sports, NBCUniversal has an unparalleled lineup and Snapchat is the ideal partner to help us reach millions of fans where they are every day”.
“Through this partnership with NBC Olympics, we’re able to give our Snapchat community the opportunity to dive in and experience the world’s largest sporting event right on their phones”, said Ben Schwerin, director of partnerships at Snapchat, in a statement.
