Tony Romo Leaves Game With Left Clavicle Injury
Nov. 22, 2015 – Miami Gardens, Florida, U.S. – Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo (9) at Sun Life Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida on November 22, 2015. That set the tone for Carolina’s victory. “When I say that, I mean just the way that I’m used to playing”.
Davis landed on Romo on this sack, jamming Romo’s left shoulder into the turf. Even more impressive were the Panthers’ two interceptions returned for touchdowns in the first half by safety Kurt Coleman and middle linebacker Luke Kuechly. “Defense went out there and brought their A-game and made our job a lot easier”.
Assisting Newton in producing the top rushing attack in the league is Jonathan Stewart, who is fifth in the NFL in rushing yards with 764.
Romo completed 11-of-21 passes for 106 yards and three interceptions before he left the game.
That goal is certainly going to be on the minds of the Panthers now that they’ve won 15 straight regular season games, tied for the longest streak in NFC history dating back to the 1970 merger.
Already enduring one of the toughest outings of his career, Tony Romo then reinjured his left clavicle on the last play of the third quarter, the outcome likely sidelining him for what will presumably be another extended period of time.
“I’m just very disappointed in not giving our team a chance to win today”, Romo said.
“I look at what (the Panthers) do, how they play their defense, what they’ve got going with their offense, the kind of year Cam Newton is having – they are a real example of how to put a team together that is exemplary”, he said. It had a similar-type feeling (as when the Week 2 break occurred).
Carolina is the 12th team in the Super Bowl era to remain flawless after 11 games, and the most recent to start 11-0 since the 2011 Green Bay Packers. The Panthers didn’t score a touchdown on offense until the third quarter, but the beauty of this team is the offense doesn’t have to be clicking on all cylinders to blow a team out.
Without Romo, Dallas will be starting Matt Cassel at quarterback while hoping to play respectable football.
The Cowboys defense actually played well for most of this game, surrendering only one touchdown, which came on a third-quarter drive that had seen them get the stop, only to have the special teams unit commit a penalty to extend the possession.
NOTES: Dallas defensive end Greg Hardy had a quiet game against his former team, finishing without any tackles and missing most of the second half with an injury Garrett wouldn’t specify. His two third-down catches on Carolina’s third-quarter touchdown drive helped give the Panthers a series on which to hang their hat on an otherwise lackluster day. Cole Beasley was the man in garbage time with a touchdown and six catches for 44 yards.
