Tony Romo to be released Thursday, ESPN sources say
This is only the beginning Broncos Country!
Over the course of his career with the Dallas Cowboys, Romo has thrown for 34,183 total yards and 248 touchdowns, which ranks him above any other Cowboys’ quarterback. But when they do, the Broncos will be waiting.
At first, it was universally reported that the Dallas Cowboys would release Tony Romo on Thursday, when the National Football League began its new year.
There is nearly no chance that the Cowboys keep Romo. The Cowboys won just two playoff games with Romo.
There’s one last twist to Tony Romo’s tenure in Dallas. Most likely he would be mentoring Jared Goff from the bench. With a hefty $14 million salary cap hit for next season, the Cowboys figured to release him.
“The Houston Texans are all in to get Tony Romo”, a source tells HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY after learning that the Dallas Cowboys would be letting him go on March 9.
In addition to the Broncos, the New York Jets and Houston Texans are reportedly interested in Romo. But he hasn’t played a full season since 2012, including missing 21 games with injuries the past two seasons.
Romo’s situation has been the focus of most of the Cowboys’ off-season after rookie sensation Dak Prescott arrived and took over when Romo was injured during the 2016 preseason.
However, John Elway and company were surprisingly quiet during the first day. Jones has a gentleman’s agreement with his quarterback to make sure to do what is best for Romo as long as Romo doesn’t go to a team that could hurt the boys chances of reaching a Super Bowl. “We have that kind of relationship”. We’ve got a lot of things to think about going forward but we’ll see what happens. Just who is supposed to “do right” by whom here? According to ESPN, the Cowboys are visiting with veteran quarterback Josh McCown to look into the possibility of the veteran replacing Romo as their backup QB.
