Top 10 Media Players for Android and iOS
Skype for business is available for iOS 9 iPhones and iPads on the App Store.
Android user? Microsoft says that the final version of Skype for Business for Android will ship “later this year”.
Originally discovered by Gadget360, the new app, Dialer, is a voice-calling app developed by the Skype team, that allows users to make calls over slower mobile networks (2G and 3G.) As of now, the app is reportedly able to replace the stock dialer app on most Android phones (depends on the phone’s restrictions), meaning you can use it to make regular phone calls as well. The search bar will allow users to find anyone from their company’s Global Address List by first or last name, email alias or phone numbers, though the app will also allow users to chat with anyone who uses Skype, even if they’re not a company employee. The user’s recent conversations are at their fingertips, no matter which device the user had their conversation on.
Skype for business has been in preview mode for iOS since August, meaning that it was available solely for exclusive users, who reported back to Microsoft for further development.
You can download Skype for Business as a Universal iOS app from the iTunes App Store.
Microsoft notes that full-screen video makes for a more immersive meeting experience. Microsoft is also promising larger buttons for muting, adding participants, and managing calls. In addition, simultaneous view of shared content and speaker’s video is also available with the new update as well. With multi-factor authentication, users are required to acknowledge a phone call, text message or an app notification on their device after correctly entering their user name and password. So, iPhone users with Lync 2013 will automatically get updated to the Skype for Business app, while iPad users with Lync 2013 will have to download the new Universal app from the iTunes Store. A future release will also include the ability to view PowerPoint slides within a meeting, but now the only way to do this is via desktop sharing in the app. Office 365 commercial customers can now use Active Directory Authentication Library (ADAL)-based authentication, multi-factor authentication, and ADAL-based authentication.
