Top 2015 Google Searches
The Google Year in Search list was compiled by a team of data curators, who analyzed trillions of queries over the course of the year, translated into 13 languages and grouped into 47 categories.
It was a year of real highs and lows for Aussies, if their 2015 Google searches are anything to go by. The most searched “what is” question: what is zero divided by zero?
And finally, perhaps a little later than you might have guessed, our search turned to the attacks last month in Paris.
From finding out about the Kylie Jenner lip challenge to stalking photos of Sofia Vergara’s wedding, everyone is guilty of doing a Google search to find out just what they want to know. Pancake, slow cooker, chicken, Thermomix and lasagna recipes were the year’s top five recipe searches.
As for the most trending terms in the world of sports, the top 10 list reveals few surprises.
The most searched topic worldwide during the year was former National Basketball Association player Lamar Odom, who was placed in a coma in October, while in Australia Netflix – which launched this year – took the crown with Odom coming in third behind it and the Rugby World Cup in which Australia finished as runner-up to New Zealand. As we round out 2015, many of us are looking back at some of the biggest stories in the entertainment industry; from deaths, to marriages, to divorces and even gender transitions, we can say it’s been one heck of a year. By comparison, here are the other major stories we searched for and the top question for each.
Jarryd Hayne was the top trending Australian in 2015 and Malcolm Turnbull came second. Deez Nuts, the 15-year-old who registered as an independent candidate for president, was sixth. When it comes to pets, we’re most curious as to why dogs wag their tails.
