Top Massachusetts lawmaker makes play for NBA All-Star Game
Obviously, North Carolina’s governor isn’t very happy about this.

With the 2017 NBA All-Star Game slated for Charlotte, North Carolina, the league chose to move the event out of the city in a decision announced on Thursday.
A number of corporate businesses have condemned the state’s decision to pass the law, and some have even pulled their business from the state, costing North Carolina hundreds of jobs, as The Christian Science Monitor’s Patrik Jonsson detailed in April.
The NBA announced Thursday its decision to relocate the 2017 All-Star Game from Charlotte.
The reason the announcement this week was so ample time will be available for the rescheduling of the event in a less hostile environment so anyone can attend the week long festivities and the game.
NBA Commissioner Adam Silver had threatened to move the event out of Charlotte unless the law was altered.
The NBA today announced that the 2017 All-Star Weekend would be removed from Charlotte, due to the controversial discriminatory House Bill 2/bathroom laws.
ESPN also reports that Charlotte Mayor Jennifer Roberts has also expressed her disappointments about NBA’s decision. “These include not only diversity, inclusion, fairness and respect for others but also the willingness to listen and consider opposing points of view”, the league stated. North Carolina schools and cities are now scheduled to host nine NCAA championship events in the next two years.
Charlotte Hornets’ owner Michael Jordan was hoping the All-Star Weekend, which features a variety of other attractions including a dunk contest and a skills challenge, would provide a significant economic boost to the franchise and the region as a whole.
“If he really wants to put his money where his mouth is, he’ll have a public conversation with members of the LGBT community, the most impacted by House Bill 2, and he has yet to do that”, Sgro said of McCrory.
The league is hopeful to return its All-Star Game to Charlotte in 2019, “provided there is an appropriate resolution to this matter”.
