Toronto announces signing of DeMarre Carroll
Scola’s hardly the flashiest signing, but for a Toronto team that ranked dead-last in power forward scoring last season, per HoopsStats.com, the move should pay immediate dividends.
The announcement came just after the league’s moratorium was lifted at midnight on deals and trades that were agreed to since free agency opened on July 1.
Carroll was Atlanta’s leading scorer through the first two rounds.
Luis Scola has announced that he is joining the Toronto Raptors.
Carroll, 28, who received a reported four-year, $60-million U.S. deal, averaged 12.6 points and 5.3 rebounds for an Atlanta team that won 60 games in the regular season.
A strong defender and outside shooting threat, Carroll started 69 games and helped the Hawks to a franchise-high 60 wins and the No. 1 seed in the playoffs last season.
The Pickering, Ont., native reportedly signed a four-year contract worth US$30 million. He finished third in the National Basteball Association in steals-to-turnover ratio (1.25) and fourth in both two-point field goal percentage (.567, 198-349) and effective field goal percentage (.579).
While the players had already confirmed the deals, National Basteball Association rules prevented the team from announcing them until Thursday.
The 6-foot-9 Scola averaged 20.5 minutes, 9.4 points and 6.5 rebounds with the Indiana Pacers last season.
