Toronto Blue Jays Win ALDS Beating Texas Rangers
The Texas Rangers are feeling the pressure as the final game of the American League Division Series approaches. Texas Rangers’ Shin-Soo Choo, of South Korea, waits as the umpire crew discusses a play during the seventh inning in Game 5 of baseball’s American League Division Series against the Toronto Blue Jays, Wedne…
“It’s the most emotionally charged game that I’ve ever played”, Bautista said.
The Blue Jays, who came into the series as favourites, are looking to put the finishing touch on their comeback after falling to 0-2 at home and fighting their way to a Game 5. The others were the 2001 New York Yankees and the 2012 San Francisco Giants. Osuna wasn’t yet born when they last played in the ALCS.
Blue Jays left-hander Marcus Stroman allowed two runs on six hits and one walk in six innings and did not factor in the decision. Home plate umpire Dale Scott, who had called time, then awarded Odor the base – and the run – after a confab.
The Rangers started the bottom half by making errors on three straight groundballs, and Toronto rallied.
The benches emptied again after the inning finally ended. After the Rangers lifted starter Cole Hamels in favor of Sam Dyson, the Jays tied the game on a fielder’s choice scoring Pillar.
Right-handed reliever Aaron Sanchez pitched 1 1/3 innings to get the win.
As the ball rolled toward the third base, Rougned Odor sprinted home from third. Martin was given an error. “It’s never happened in my life before”.
But such a colossal moment requires more than just endless loops on the computer and cell phone screens of the world.
“Really it came down to the rules are what they are and I’m still a bit in the fog about that”. The RBI snapped Fielder’s 22-game postseason drought without one.
Choo was ruled to be still in the batter’s box when Martin’s throw deflected off his bat, he wasn’t called for interference.
“We thought we were too good to bow out in the first round”, Blue Jays manager John Gibbons said.
The run stood after a lengthy review, and fans responded by throwing garbage and beer cans on to the field.
No need for the paperwork, though. The Rangers made three consecutive errors.
After Dalton Pompey pinch ran for Martin, Ryan Goins followed with a sacrifice bunt. “I feel like I let down my team and my city”.
Josh Donaldson drove in Pillar on a field’s choice floater that just went over Odor’s glove to tied it at 3-3. Three pitches later, slugger Jose Bautista uncorked a massive homer (and bat flip).
“He’s been known to hit dramatic home runs and there ain’t a better time”, Gibbons said.
With a few fans continuing to litter the field, Encarnacion turned to face the crowd and appealed for calm, lifting his bat and helmet over his head.
Twenty police officers lined the outfield and many more were stationed down the lines during the delay. This cleared the benches. At first DeShields was sent back to third.
Choo’s homer was the first for the Rangers since Odor connected off David Price in the seventh inning of Game 1. Right fielder Jose Bautista lashed an RBI double to left.
