Toronto Nightclub Shooting: At Least 2 Dead, 3 Wounded
A shooting at Muzik nightclub on Toronto’s Exhibition grounds has killed two people, while three others are in hospital.
The shooting was called in at 3:30 a.m. Police responded to reports that shots were being fired at the Muzik nightclub moments later, according to the AP.
Toronto Police Superintendent Frank Bergen, of 14 Division, reportedly told media outlets that “this is a sporadic shooting that did occur just before 3:30 this morning at 15 Saskatchewan”. Bergen said there is a possibility that other victims have not yet reported to hospital, and urged them to seek treatment.
At least one of the people shot was an innocent bystander, police said at a news conference on Tuesday.
Three people were hospitalized with various injuries and one female has been treated and released.
Police asked for the public’s help with their investigation. Authorities also said that the situation began inside of the club and carried on into the streets outside of the nightclub.
The shooting happened at a Toronto nightclub, Muzik, located across the bridge from the Molson Amphitheatre where the OVO Fest concert took place.
The club said in a statement that the last patrons were exiting the building as gunshots were heard.
The club said it also had 10 armed Toronto police officers on paid duty as part of the security detail. Police have closed all roads surrounding the area.
“Our officers were present when the initial shots went off. They were within meters of the initial shooting”, said Mr Sloly.
“We did our best to prevent such a thing from happening”.
