Toronto nightclub shooting: Two killed in gunfight at Drake event after party
Ultimately, one man and one woman are reportedly dead while three others were hospitalized after this awful attack.
Officers said they may still be other crime scenes in separate locations and the investigation was ongoing. “In fact, we called extra resources down to the area in advance, just to provide extra security”, Deputy Police Chief Peter Sloly told CBC.
Based on a report from TMZ, Drake hosted this after party at Muzik, although it’s not clear whether he was present when shots were fired at 3am on Tuesday.
We’ll have to see whether Drake brings his party back to Muzik next year, or whether the club will even be open to hosting concertgoers from the festival.
The first officer to arrive at that area found a woman who had been shot and was able to administer CPR before she was rushed to a hospital where she died, police said. “And we’re very lucky that it wasn’t more, given how crowded the venue was”, according to The Toronto Star. The Toronto Police Service is asking for the public’s assistance in providing any information possible. The shooter fired multiple times before fleeing into a wooded area, the newspaper quoted witnesses as saying.
Meanwhile, New Jersey state police were searching Tuesday for a suspect in the shooting of two people outside a Big Sean/J.
“We’re satisfied at this point that the organisation involved was doing their best and this did occur at approximately 3.30am as things were shutting down for the evening”, he said. Specially-trained officers had also been present at the start of the party, conducting body searches and using metal detectors on all patrons entering the nightclub.
Sloly said at least one victim was shot inside the club, before the shooting moved outside.
Amazingly there was also a shooting incident at Drake’s after-party in the same venue at nearly exactly the same time previous year.
