Toronto, Ottawa urge police crackdown on Uber
Unlike licensed taxis, which have to follow a long list of rules and regulations, Uber operated outside of those rules by saying that it is not a taxi company. Not only that, but Uber’s cloud-based data-gathering can be used for urban planning applications, he said, claiming that central London traffic movements have already been transformed by Uber drivers.
But Cosatu has particularly taken issue with regulation and wants Uber drivers to own the cars they drive as well.

It has emerged that Uber, which allows users to book a vehicle via an app and then charges the ride to a passenger’s credit card, has the details of compliance officers working for the WA Department of Transport and is able to blacklist them from the app, the ABC reports.
Now, Cosatu has hit out at Uber’s business model, which involves partnering with drivers. After the app’s launch, it’s up to the clients to improve their service in line with what Uber is and to make sure their customers download and use their app.

A small group of taxi drivers and owners showed up to the June 18 meeting and expressed frustration at the imbalance of regulations between taxis and TNCs.
