Tottenham apologise to ice hockey legend Wayne Gretzky for spelling name wrong
Tottenham have apologised to National Hockey League legend Wayne Gretzky after misspelling his name on the back of a Spurs shirt.
Gretzky was at White Hart Lane last night for the North London derby between Spurs and Arsenal in the Capital One Cup, a match the Gunners won 2-1 thanks to a Mathieu Flamini double. Everyone was excited to see him, none more so than the Spurs brass, who presented him with his own custom Tottenham shirt.
As the highest scoring player in NHL history, the legendary Wayne Gretzky often serves as a worldwide ambassador for the game of hockey.
There was just one problem: They spelled his name wrong.
Credit to Gretzky, he took the error in good heart and later insisted on Twitter that it wasn’t the first time someone had fallen foul of mixing up an “s” with a “z”.
That’s right, the jersey reads “Gretsky” rather than “Gretzky” but number 99 took it all with a grain of salt.
