Tottenham defender at West Brom for medical
Tottenham Hotspur defender Federico Fazio has arrived for a medical at West Bromwich Albion, according to Sky Sports.
“The lad is here and having a medical and we’re hoping to get it done”, Tony Pulis told reporters.
“That deal has nothing to do with Saido’s position at the football club”, added Pulis.
“He’s been a top player for Sevilla and I think he will be a top signing for the club”.
With Spurs off to a relatively poor start to the 2015/16 campaign following an opening day defeat to Manchester United and last weekend’s home draw against Stoke City, Pochettino is looking to move the deadwood while focusing his attentions on bringing in a striker, with Baggies’ Saido Berahino widely mooted.
Fazio only moved to White Hart Lane last summer from current Europa League winners Sevilla, but he has dropped down the pecking order at the club following the recent additions of Toby Alderweireld and Kevin Wimmer.
“We’d like Saido to stay, we think it would be in his interests to stay football-wise and we’ll do our damndest to try and keep him here”.
West Brom have already turned down a bid for the 22-year-old but Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino said it was important for the club to sign a forward so he can play with two up front.
And, ahead of Sunday’s visit of the Premier League champions, the Baggies head coach wants him to concentrate on Chelsea. Fazio’s likely arrival also casts doubt over the future of Joleon Lescott at The Hawthorns, with Pulis refusing to offer guarantees over his future.
