Tottenham face anxious wait over extent of Harry Kane’s ankle injury
Kane is due to undergo a scan on the ankle injury he sustained in Spurs’ 1-0 victory over Sunderland on Sunday afternoon, but Lloris is confident that the team can cope in the absence of their leading striker, who has made 71 consecutive appearances in the Premier League.
The 23-year-old was later seen leaving White Hart Lane on crutches and wearing a protective boot on his right foot.
“I think we made the fans happy”.
“Its true that if you have a look at the images we can be a bit anxious”.
“We just hope it is not too bad”, goalkeeper Lloris said.
There was little of either in Spurs’ midweek defeat in the Champions League, but it is encouraging to see them wear down Sunderland on Sunday.
“Mousa Dembele and Eric Dier got cramps in their hamstrings”, the Argentine explained on Sky Sports.
They were much quicker out of the blocks against Sunderland, mustering 19 shots on goal in the opening 45 minutes – the most in the first half of a Premier League game since Boxing Day – and eventually got their reward just before the hour-mark.
“You know [what the manager said] is only the truth”. He is not used to lying to his players and it was the case after the Monaco game that in the dressing room after the game we all felt a bit sad.
“Its true that we need to score more”, said the France keeper.
The Argentinian added: “It’s new for us, and it’s important to learn, and sometimes you are surprised when you make changes”.
“When you are involved in different competitions like the Champions League, it’s a new competition for us and we spent a lot of energy on Wednesday”, he said. “I think the medical staff will try their best”, Lloris said.
He said: “We have a lot of worldwide players”.
“Tottenham are a top-quality side, that is why they finished where they did last season”.
However, despite all Spurs’ pressure, it was Sunderland who created the best chance of the first half after good play by Januzaj in the box saw the Belgian escape to the right-hand byline and pull the ball back for Steven Pienaar, whose close-range effort was cleared off the line by Kyle Walker.
