Tottenham lose Son to foot injury
The South Korean has started at Spurs like a house on fire but is set for a spell on the sidelines following a foot injury suffered in the incredible 4-1 win over Manchester City on Saturday.
“Our medical staff will monitor his progress during his rehabilitation in order to determine when he will be fit to return to training.”
Mauricio Pochettino was pressed on Son’s injury ahead of Thursday’s Europa League tie in Monaco – a match the Spurs head coach confirmed the 23-year-old would miss, as well as his country’s upcoming matches against Kuwait and Jamaica.
The forward went on to score twice on his home debut in the Europa League, before bagging the victor against Crystal Palace.
The player subbed on for Son in that game, Clinton Njie, is likely the Spurs squad member most likely to benefit from Son’s absence.
“[It’s] bad news about Son because he got a foot injury in the game against Manchester City, and we have to assess him for the next few weeks”, Pochettino told Sky Sports News.
“You can see I am very pleased with him, very happy”. Occupying a deeper midfield role than Son, Ki has the natural game to play the short incisive passes that are a hallmark of Swansea’s game at their best, but can also be one of the team’s better players of the longer, “killer” ball. We believe it is not a big issue but every player is different and the recovery is always different.
