Tottenham qualify for the Europa League knockout stages with Qarabag win
Mauricio Pochettino says Harry Kane’s future is at Tottenham after watching the England forward fire his side into the knockout stages of the Europa League.
The Spurs boss said he was relaxed about the side’s fixture pile-up.
Tottenham are now on a six game unbeaten run in all competitions, whilst in the Premier League they have not lost since the opening weekend of 2015/16.
They continued their excellent form last Sunday as goals from Harry Kane, Toby Alderweireld and Kyle Walker meant Manuel Lanzini’s late effort was insignificant as they cruised to acomfortable 4-1 victory over West Ham United.
Lokomotiv’s 4-2 home defeat to Sporting Lisbon left them in danger of being caught by the Portuguese side, with two points separating the top three. Next up is Chelsea at home on Sunday.
Eric Dier has warned Tottenham to avoid any complacency when they travel to Qarabag in the Europa League on Thursday. However, Chelsea are starting to find their rhythm again and Spurs will be made to work.
The England worldwide took his tally to nine goals in his last six club games when he got the final touch from close range after Son connected with Eriksen’s corner, extending Spurs’ European campaign into the new year as a result.
Tottenham came within inches of taking the lead in the 65th minute.
Spurs will be trying their hardest in this one, knowing that they have a real chance to win this tournament and, as such, book a Champions League group stage place for next season. “We need to be clinical in how we assess our players because the jet lag is very important”, he added. Chelsea will have reason to be optimistic. Nevertheless, every little helps for a club like MK Dons, and they’ll not just be pleased to be picking up the money. Norwich was the start.
“As soon as we decide to play the game, we are all professional football players and even if it is everything but easy, we must deliver on the pitch”. There’s next-to-no margin for error, but no team featuring Costa, Hazard, Willian, Pedro and Cesc Fabregas can be counted out just yet. A second-string Spurs side should still have too much for Azerbaijan’s top team, and if it isn’t, we will have senior players ready to come off the bench and, if necessary, we will get another go under the lights against Monaco at the Lane next month.
