Tottenham transfers: Roberto Soldado tug-of-war hots up as Villarreal rival
Villarreal coach Marcelino has admitted that the La Liga side are keen on securing the services of Roberto Soldado from Tottenham, per ESPN.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side have flown to Denver to finalise their preparations for the forthcoming Premier League season and the absence of the aforementioned players could suggest that their respective futures lie away from White Hart Lane.
AS are reporting that the Bundesliga outfit are keen to bring in the striker, who they feel will be able to grab the goals in German football.
The Spaniard moved to White Hart Lane from Valencia two years ago, but failed to match his goalscoring exploits in Spain following his £26m switch to London.
Where should Soldado play next season? Our idea is to sign two strikers and we are now dealing with that. “Let’s see who arrives”, Toral said to IBTimes UK after Giovani dos Santos, Luciano Vietto and Ikechukwu Uche left the club during the summer transfer window.
Marcelino said: “It is very hard [to sign Soldado]. It is a hard situation”.
Villarreal are also seemingly interested in the player, but Toral admits any deal to take Soldado to the Madrigal would be a complicated one. He is a player with a lot of potential. The fact that he has lacked regular playing time and has not had the confidence of his team in the past two seasons may have affected his performances.
“But as he is not here, I don’t want to speak further about that possibility”. But if you’re like me, you really like Roberto and hope he lands on his feet.
