Tough-guy journeyman actor George Kennedy dies at 91
Cory Schenkel said his grandfather died on Sunday morning in the city of Boise, Idaho, celebrity news website TMZ reported.
“I have created so many great memories and I will enjoy them for life”.
“They both lived unbelievable lives, and I know they are resting in peace”.
He won the best supporting actor Oscar for the 1967 film “Cool Hand Luke”. One of his strongest supporting roles was in the hit 1970 film “Airport”.
USA actor George Kennedy, who starred in movies including Cool Hand Luke and the Naked Gun series, has died at the age of 91, his grandson has announced. The movie spawned several sequels, with him being in all of them, and landed Kennedy a Golden Globe nomination.
Kennedy was born in NY in 1925 into a show business family; his father, George Harris Kennedy, was a musician and orchestra leader who died when his son was four. But with the outbreak of World War II, he made the choice to serve his country, and stayed in the US Army for 16 years. Schenkel joined Kennedy on the set for his last role in The Gambler alongside Mark Wahlberg in 2014.
He later appeared in the 1970s “Airport” dramas about disaster in the skies before playing alongside Leslie Nielson in the slapstick comedy “Naked Gun” movies.
Kennedy, besides appearing onstage and performing on the radio, also wrote three books: the 1983 murder mystery Murder on Location, 1984’s Murder on High, published the following year, and his 2011 autobiography, Trust Me.
