Tours, Aguero lead Manchester City comeback
Manchester City secured a hard-fought win, as they completed a late comeback courtesy of Toure and Aguero to win 2-1 at Watford.
An Aleksandar Kolarov own goal in the 55th minute had given Watford a surprise lead over Manuel Pellegrini’s team.
The match turned on its head as Yaya Toure volleyed home on 82 minutes, directing Kolarov’s corner into the top corner, before Sergio Aguero headed in a Bacary Sagna cross two minutes later.
As a result, City move back to within three points of Arsenal, while their focus switches to cup competitions next week with a League Cup outing against Everton on Wednesday night before a trip to Norwich City in the FA Cup next Saturday.
But it was Watford who ended the half on top and nearly began the second half by drawing first blood inside 90 seconds. Manuel Pellegrini has refused to get carried away, insisting that there are too many games left to even consider the title.
But Almen Abdi, one of the few Watford goal-scorers this season other than the prolific pairing of Troy Deeney and Odion Ighalo, sounded an early warning when he drove just over within two minutes. Toure, so dominant at his peak, appears to have reached the point in his career in which he feels the prospect of closing down opponents should be passed on to a teammate. I’ve always said this team has character and will never give up. They have the possibility in two minutes to change the dynamic of the match.
“He has improved a lot in his whole performance if you compare it with his last game”.
Asked if he regarded City as the favourites, Flores told reporters: “Yes”.
MAN CITY (4-2-3-1): Hart 7; Sagna 7, Otamendi 7, Mangala 5 (Bony 75, 6) Kolarov 6; Fernandinho 8, Toure 7; De Bruyne 7, Silva 5, Sterling 5 (Navas 60, 6); Aguero 6 (Demichelis 86). Last season he was the main target when we were not performing and it isn’t fair. They will take the three points back to the Etihad with relief, but City got away with it at Vicarage Road. “I managed a lot of good players”, he reflected, “but Silva and Aguero were a little bit different”.
The Hornets scored only eight goals at home this season. “We played very well against Sunderland and also against Leicester. I think we are in the correct way”.
“He is one of the best in the world”.
The latter netted once more against Tottenham for his sixth goal in successive Premier League games, and he will provide the biggest danger to a Man City defence over which there has been a number of question marks in recent times. “Watford are playing well but if you look at the statistics I think we deserved to win”. “I’ll just bosh it in the net and go back to thinking about birthday cake” – Andy Goddard (@ffscout_andy) January 2, 2016Yaya Touré is a genius.
