Toy Maker Hasbro Manufactures Pet Robot Cats For Seniors
Fischer added: “Whether it’s one-on-one time between caregivers and recipients, or multi-generational play with parents, children, and grandchildren, we’re excited to enable families and friends of all ages to connect more deeply through the universal language of play”.
Named Joy For All, the new robot pet line is pitched as a way to keep the elderly company. The multinational toy company Hasbro is now hawking furry, robotic pets, marketed to seniors looking for a low-commitment companionship.
Aside from its four C batteries and lifeless gaze, the cats are pretty realistic, with faux feline fur that comes in “orange tabby”, “silver”, and “creamy white”, and automated “cat-like” movements. Billed as companion animals for seniors rather than toys, Hasbro’s site refers to the animatronic animals as “companion pets”.
Called the Companion Pet, kitty’s tag price of $99 is deemed affordable and a good way to beat lonely nights for granny or gramps.
A robot cat is the ideal gift for your slightly daffy grandmother, it looks like a real cat, and grandma can pet it all day long, and it won’t crap on her pillow because she forgot to clean her litter box.
The motions, including the meowing, is due to the built-in sensors inside the toy that responds to motion and touch. And if you continuously pet its back, eventually it will roll over so you can give it a belly rub.
