Toyota Compact SUV To Launch At Geneva With C-HR Concept Styling
There are now new reports suggesting that Toyota might be thinking about coming out with a new crossover that will be based on the concept that they showed off at the Paris Motor Show previous year.
Instead, Toyota look set to retain much of the C-HR’s look in the production model (rumoured to be called ‘Auris Cross’), in a bid to attract customers considering the likes of the Nissan Juke. It was distinguished by its heavily flared wheel arches, angular haunches and “floating” rear light clusters, all of which gave it a notably broad stance.
This week, the UK’s Autocar has reported that a Geneva motor show debut is now on the cards, although no official source is cited.
The upcoming compact SUV from Toyota will sit on the Toyota New Global Architecture platform. By 2020, around half of all Toyotas will be based on the platform, with the next-generation Prius kick-starting use of the technology. The C-HR concept was said to have the interior space of a Qashqai despite having slightly smaller dimensions. In fact, nobody knows if Toyota is really looking to add a new model to their line-up. The call was similarly taken into account and applied to the design of its premium brand, Lexus, according to reports.
Paul van der Burgh, newly-minted President of Toyota UK, already has high hopes for the new compact SUV – if it actually stays true to its original design, that is. “If such a product were to launch, I’m confident it could be a best seller”, he said.
